I began my career in Neuroscience, exploring the inner workings of the brain in both healthy and pathological states, and unlocking the fascinating world of human perception. After gaining a PhD investigating multimodal perception, I managed the University of Nottingham's prestigious Sensory Science Centre before taking on the role of Assistant Professor in Sensory Science.
My expertise includes recruitment, training and monitoring expert Sensory Panels, sensory and consumer methodologies, data analysis and interpretation, and teaching & supervision at all levels. My experience goes beyond Sensory Science encompassing multidisciplinary, commercially relevant, research programs spanning human perception, flavour chemistry, food structure and microbiology - take a look at my publications page to find out more.
Curious to explore how Sensory Science is applied in a major FMCG company, a transition to industry in 2016 led to joining PepsiCo's global Sensory & Consumer Product Insights team. There, leadership of a talented team of four scientists across Europe involved designing consumer-centric studies to guide innovation and commercialisation, as well as spearheading innovative research programs with cross-functional stakeholders.
In 2020, academia beckoned once more with a role as Associate Professor in the International Flavour Research Centre, where cutting-edge research projects continue to fuel curiosity and expertise. This part-time position provides the flexibility to undertake consultancy projects, including supporting Mars Food Global CTI for 12 months, enhancing internal capabilities, and driving Quality Management Processes.
